Making homemade baby food is fun and rewarding. Don’t get me wrong. I used a lot of good quality store bough baby food too! But I always enjoyed when I did get a chance to make try some new baby food recipes because it was nice knowing what exactly I was feeding my babies and that it was super fresh. Today, I will share a nice and easy introduction into making your own stage 2 baby food. This carrot mango apple baby food recipe is from Tyler Florence and it makes for a great flavor combination as well as a healthy choice.

Homemade Stage 2 Baby Food

This homemade stage 2 baby food does a great job at taking two flavors that most babies will be familiar with from stage 1 baby foods, apple and carrot, and introducing them to a new flavor- mango.  This is a great flavor combination as well as a healthy combination of veggie and nutritious fruits. For babies 6–8 months, you can start to introduce a wider variety of fruits and vegetables and gradually increase the texture to a little thicker consistency as your baby learns to chew.

Not only are carrots one of the first solid foods introduced to babies, but it is an important ingredient containing vitamins, fiber and antioxidants.  Carrot baby food recipes encourage a healthy relationship with vegetables as well as a nutritious diet for little ones.  It is very important to introduce vegetable to the baby palate early and train them to enjoy flavors besides just sweet fruits.

The fruits used here are high in nutrition as well. Apples are high in antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber. Mangos are also a great source of vitamins C and fiber. Additionally, as bbcgoodfood.com points out, they contain folate, B6, iron and a little calcium, zinc and vitamin A and E.

Tyler Florence, co-founder of Sprout and advisor to Sprout’s recipe team has created this healthy and nutritious apple baby food recipe below. This recipe and many more are found in his Start Fresh cookbook (affiliate link) which is based on his Sprout recipes.

This flavor combination is a great option for babies being introduced to fruits and vegetables. The combination can also be found in Sprout’s line of squeezable pouches for on-the-go snacks and meals.

How To Make Baby Food:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange the carrots, mango, and raw apples on the baking sheet and roast until the fruit has browned and the carrots are tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. Scrape the fruit and carrots into a blender or food processor and puree until smooth.

If you want to offer your baby a variety of baby foods you could keep out 3 servings- for one meal a day for 3 days- and then freeze the rest (about 5 more servings). Enjoy the apple puree recipe for a longer time. A baby food freezer storage tray comes in handy for this.
