Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Patties Breakfast Sandwich Recipe

I got invited by al fresco to join them for a glamping adventure in Ithaca, New York where I had the chance to participate in a super fun culinary adventure. We were divided into teams and participated in an “Iron Chef” like competition. I worked with Zippy from Champagne Living and we featured al fresco chicken sausage patties in our dish. She was a great partner and we got to bounce ideas off each other. We worked well together dividing up tasks and double checking of all the details. For the breakfast round of the competition, we came up with a Country Style Chicken Sausage Patty Breakfast Sandwich and served it with a side of maple lemon fruit salad. I will share those breakfast recipes with you here.

This post was first published July 31, 2015. I have added a recipe card and republished it here for my readers to enjoy.

Chicken Sausage Sandwich Recipe:

chicken sausage breakfast sandwich

This breakfast sandwich chicken sausage patty recipe is easy to make. We cooked everything up right on the grill since we were glamping but a stove would be even easier!  The alfresco chicken sausage patties are fully cooked and they are the perfect sandwich size breakfast sausage patties. The al fresco chicken sausage patty brings so much flavor to your breakfast sandwich. This recipe serves 4. The judges thought the portion sizes were a little large but my husband would eat that right up.

Chicken Sausage Breakfast Sandwich Ingredients:

  • 1 baguette
  • 1 package of al fresco Country Style Chicken Sausage Breakfast Patty
(you could easily double this is you prefer two patties per sandwich)
  • 2 small shallots, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 tbsp butter and 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 tsp fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 4 cheddar cheese slices
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Ingredient Notes:

Feel free to make substitutions for your breakfast sandwiches. English muffins or Italian bread can be used in place of a French bread baguette. Two tablespoons of diced yellow onion can be used in place of shallots. You can use a single large flat sandwich sized slice of cheese instead of 4 skinny slices of the block. Instead of jalapeno, feel free to use fresh bell pepper or red pepper flakes.

How To Use Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Patty In Breakfast Sandwich

Grill sausages or pan fry the al fresco Chicken Sausage Patties about 4 minutes on each side over medium-high heat until they start to get a little browned. A cast iron pan works great but is optional. This al fresco sausage is made with lean, skinless chicken meat and it has less fat and salt than pork sausage. These sandwich size sausage patties are also gluten free.  While they are warming up, go ahead and start your eggs.

Put butter and olive oil in a large skillet on medium heat.  Add diced shallots and saute until soft. Add diced jalapeno to the softened onions. Whisk eggs and pour into the skillet over the onions and jalapeno. Cover and let cook for about two minutes and then flip.  When done, remove from pan. Salt and pepper to taste and divide into four portions.

Cut your baguette in half the long flat way. Grill or broil your baguette bread slice until it is has grill marks or is slightly browned.

Assemble your big sandwich with baguette, eggs, chicken sausage patty, avocado slices, and cheese slices. Your chicken sausage breakfast sandwich is ready with a cooking time of just 10-15 minutes!

It tasted great served with this simple maple lemon fruit salad that I created to add complementary flavors and colors to the breakfast plate.

Maple Lemon Fruit Salad Ingredients

  • one mango, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • one tbsp lemon juice
  • 2tbsp maple syrup

Side Maple Lemon Fruit Salad Directions

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and refrigerate until you are ready to serve. This Maple Lemon Fruit Salad goes great with the Chicken Sausage Breakfast Sandwich Recipe. You could also serve it with hash browns but the fruit salad is so easy and healthy!

Conclusion

Al fresco breakfast chicken sausage is popular and makes a good sandwich for several reasons:

  1. Healthier Option: Chicken sausage generally has less fat and fewer calories compared to pork sausage, making it a healthier option for breakfast.
  2. Flavor Variety: Al fresco offers a variety of flavors and seasonings, appealing to different taste preferences.
  3. High-Quality Ingredients: Al fresco is known for using high-quality, natural ingredients without artificial additives, which appeals to health-conscious consumers.
  4. Convenience: Pre-cooked sausage is available, making it a quick and easy choice for a fast breakfast. Plus, they are sandwich size sausage patties. In other words, large slices of sausage that fill up your bread nicely.
  5. Dietary Preferences: It’s a good option for those who prefer poultry over red meat or for those looking to reduce their red meat intake.

This easy recipe is a perfect filling and nutritious choice for a big day where you need lots of energy. Breakfast patties are one of the best ways to add flavorful protein to your breakfast sandwiches. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Breakfast Sandwich Chicken Sausage Patty Recipe and see if you enjoyed it as much as the judges did.  By the way, they loved that fruit salad recipe too!
