Sweet almond oil is a great source of antioxidants. According to Buckler’s Remedy, “Oxidative stress (A.K.A. when your body doesn’t have enough antioxidants to fight free radicals) is a major cause of the deterioration of your skin’s collagen layer.” So sweet almond oil helps protect your collagen production keeping your skin looking supple and wrinkle-free. Almond oil also contains valuable fatty acids, vitamins and minerals in a combination that improves skin tone and promotes a healthy complexion. However, you may substitute an alternative carrier oil such as jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, argan oil, grapeseed oil or even aloe vera gel. Each of these simple ingredients also has their own natural healing properties.
The essential oils I chose for this eye serum have qualities that will help calm inflammation and firm skin appearance. Frankincense essential oil is high in anti-oxidant and thus renowned for anti-aging properties. It is also known for their tightening effect on skin. Geranium essential oil is known for its astringent, diuretic properties and is often used to reduce inflammation and irritation. I used Young Living essential oils because they are excellent quality. It is important to use therapeutic grade essential oils that are 100% pure.
How To Make DIY Eye Serum With Essential Oils:
First gather your supplies and grab a seat at your table. Unscrew the cap off of your roller bottle and gently pop the rollerball top off.
Take your essential oils and place 2 drops of each one into your bottle. They are very potent essential oils and should never be used directly on the skin without being mixed with a carrier oil first. In this case, we use almond oil as the carrier oil and because of its many beauty virtues.
After you have added 2 drops of Geranium and Frankincense essential oils each, take your Sweet Almond Oil and fill your roller bottle the rest of the way up. Just to the bottom of the neck of your bottle. This will allow enough room for the rollerball to pop back on without spilling over.
For extra under eye nourishment, add 4-5 drops of Vitamin E oil (can use vitamin e capsules as a source) which helps cells regenerate. I also find it makes this eye serum even more firming for the skin around my eyes.
Pop your rollerball back on and screw the cap back on as well. Give your under eye firming serum a gentle shake and it’s ready to use!
How To Use Under Eye Firming Serum
If this is the first time you are going to use your homemade eye serum, test it first. Just rub small amount on a small patch of the delicate skin on your arm. This is a good idea to be sure that you don’t have any sensitivities to the essential oils. Wait until the following day to go ahead and apply it to the eye area.
You never want to get the oil in your eyes! This eye serum is only for use around the eye area.
The following day, roll a bit of the DIY eye serum under your eyes to help prevent dark circles. Also apply a bit around the sides of your eyes where crows feet can form. This eye serum is great soothing puffy eyes and dry skin. For best results use daily. You may use morning or night.
