Too often we snap photos on our digital devices but we don’t have anything real we can hold to show for it. When my kids were born, I decided to make a yearly photo album to capture our memories and tell our stories so that we could always relive these special years we shared with our children. I have tried various photo albums and photo book formats over the years but I have just discovered the best quality photo books. I am talking beautiful archival quality photo books that are meant to last for generations. I was provided with high quality photo books from MILK Books in order to facilitate review.
High Quality Photo Books- A MILK Books Review
MILK BOOKS are truly in a class of their own. MILK stands for ‘Moments of Inspiration, Love and Kinship’. The founder, Geoff Blackwell, created the MILK Collection, with three titles ‘Family’, ‘Friendship’ and ‘Love’. These photography books which celebrated the very best of humankind were a global success, selling 4 million copies. In 2012, Geoff had the idea of creating a print-on-demand high quality photo book business so that anyone could celebrate their own special moments in beautiful photo books and albums, hence MILK Tailor Made Books was launched. At the heart of MILK is a deep belief in the enduring beauty and value of beautifully printed objects so it is no surprise that their photo books set a new benchmark for quality.
Premium Photo Books
MILK combines traditional book making techniques with the latest printing technology to create photo books that can be cherished by your family for many lifetimes. The Premium Photo Books are really beautiful and the level of quality really stands out. Traveling with our children is something my husband and I really cherish so naturally I was really happy to be able to capture our memories in these high quality photo books.
MILK Premium Photo Books are ‘archival quality’ which means they’re designed to last several lifetimes. Each one is handcrafted, stitched, and comes with 6-color printing. Each MILK Premium Photo Book offers choice of 6 elegant formats, paper stocks, luxurious cover fabrics, and allows for 40 – 160 pages.
To make the hard cover photo books, I began by selecting from options for Size & Format, Cover Fabric, Cover Design, and Number Of Pages. The first three choices were pretty easy. For number of pages, I just went with the basic 40 pages but you can add pages while making the book (at additional cost) so that is exactly what I did.
To make the high quality photo book, first I uploaded my images. Then I selected the image and title for the cover. Next I used the designer templates to add my photos and captions. It was great to be able to make one image take up an entire page or two pages or have several images fit onto one page as I saw fit.
Once I completed the professional photo books, I was provided with the option of ordering extra copies and changing format if I wanted to get a copy for the grandparents as well. I was also given a free online photo flip book version so I could share it online. Pretty cool!
The MILK Premium Photo Books arrived individual packaged and well protected. I was so excited to see our family trips captured for posterity and show them to my family to relive the vacation experiences.
I was very happy with the quality. I really like the lay-flat binding and stitching for lasting strength that will hold up to opening and closing. The stitching also allows you to create stunning double page spreads.
The 6-color printing makes a difference in the photo quality an it really captures all the detail and preserves it in all its beauty. They use top-quality inks so I can rest assured my pictures won’t fade. The quality of the inks and the archival quality paper mean I don’t have to worry about my photos degrading over time (unlike the photos in the photo books from when I was little). The luxurious-to-the-touch sustainable paper is also acid-free, so the vibrancy of your images will last for generations. I chose the Matt White paper stock for my books.
MILK Premium Photo Books offer 10 elegant cover finishes to choose from, including Linen, Premium Coated Cloth (Buckram) and Leather. I chose two different colors of linen so I could quickly distinguish my photo books. I also enjoyed choosing a title to appear on the cover and photo book spine in subtle raised ink application.
I am so happy with the way these MILK Premium Photo Books turned out! I know I will cherish them for years to come and pass them onto my kids to cherish and show their kids. I also love how they hold so many photos without taking up too much space so I can stay organized and keep things neatly stored away.
