Have you ever stopped to consider how many glass jars you toss out every week? While recycling them is great, learning how to reuse glass jars will reduce your carbon footprint even more. Reusing glass jars is also a great way to save money and keep yourself organized and we all need more money and organization in our lives, right?

How to Reuse Glass Jars

10 Different Clever Ways to Reuse Glass Jars

Instead of throwing away your glass jars, here are ten nifty ways to reuse them instead:

Bathroom organization

Store your cotton balls and other beauty items in glass jars. They will be kept clean and organized and right at your fingertips.

In the pantry

Large glass jars can be used to store rice, beans, and other dry goods in your kitchen pantry. This will keep them fresher and prevent open bags of beans from toppling all over your pantry.

Plant a succulent garden

Check out Pinterest to learn how to reuse glass jars as succulent gardens. Wide mouthed glass jars are best for planting small succulents. Make sure to add a layer of small stones to the bottom for drainage. Certain herbs will also grow well in glass jars. Just make sure they get lots of sun.

Upcycled décor

Decoupage pretty material or scrapbook paper on the outside of a glass jar. Alternatively, you could wrap the glass jar in burlap or an old sweater sleeve. Place dried flowers in it and use it as a vase. Or, just fill a glass jar with sea shells for a bit of natural décor on your counter.

Sugar sprinkler

Poke many holes in the lid of a jar. Fill the jar with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar. Screw the lid on. Now you have a great upcycled way to sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on your toast.

Organize your office

Use empty glass jars to organize your office supplies. Keep your paper clips, elastic bands, push pins, and other office supplies neat by storing them in small jars with lids.

Drinking Glasses

Some glass jars are great for drinking glasses. Just buy the same brand of product for a few months and you will have a matched set. I love using glass jars as glasses for kids because they are typically nice and thick and harder for kids to break as well as being a perfect mini size.

For a homemade gift

If you are wondering how to reuse glass jars and actually get them out of your house at the same time, fill them with homemade sugar scrubs, hot chocolate mix, etc. Tie a bow around the lid and send that jar off to someone else’s house!

Homemade soap dispenser

Make your own homemade liquid soap. Fill your jar with it and screw on a pump attachment onto your jar.

Kids crafts

You can reuse glass bottles as paint and water containers for your children’s next art project. You can also use them for layered sand art projects, thumbprint candle holder crafts, or many other creative art projects. Another fun project is to make mason jar bird feeders!

Learning how to reuse glass jars will help save you money and reduce your carbon footprint. There are endless possibilities when it comes to creative uses for your empty glass containers!

The glass in jars is cheaper and not as good as glass products made for home use. The glass jars tend to shatter smaller and sharper shards of glass than a broken drinking glass would leave.

As that might be true, they are much cooler than the boring household glasses found in every home.
