The Origins Of National Applesauce Cake Day

Applesauce cake became popular during World War I and was promoted as patriotic because some ingredients were limited at the time. Applesauce is great substitute for butter because it adds the natural sweetness and moisture to any recipe. I tried this recipe and loved it! The flour can be replaced with gluten free flour if you have a gluten allergy and it tastes just as delicious. This applesauce cake takes one hour to complete including the preparation and baking time. It is so good you will want to make it year round, not just on National Applesauce Cake Day which is celebrated on June 6th each year.

Coincidently (or not), National Applesauce Day is also celebrated on June 6th. It highlights the versatility and health benefits of applesauce. This simple and delicious treat has long been enjoyed as a snack, a baking ingredient, and even as a side dish. Applesauce is often made by simmering peeled apples with a bit of water or apple juice, then puréeing them until smooth. Many people add cinnamon or other spices for extra flavor.

Applesauce is not only tasty but also offers health benefits as it’s rich in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Plus, it can be a great substitute for butter or oil in baking, reducing the fat content of recipes while keeping them moist. It’s especially popular in vegan baking for this reason, and it can be used in both sweet and savory dishes. National Apple Sauce Day!
