This post is sponsored by Daisy Brand Sour Cream and I am excited to announce they have introduced a new squeezable package- Daisy® Squeeze Sour Cream. I love sour cream. It is so delicious and well, creamy! I love the new Daisy Squeeze because it makes it even easier to top things with sour cream and to spread the fresh, creamy goodness around more evenly. Here are 10 recipes that use sour cream and taste great! Some of these sour cream uses will be familiar to you while others may surprise you.

10 Fantastic Recipes With Sour Cream

Better With Sour Cream

While sour cream is delicious year-round, I find that I enjoy it even more than usual in the spring and summer because it brings such a cooling, delicious fresh taste to dishes. Everything tastes better with Daisy— as a recipe ingredient or a dollop on top and now you can squeeze a dollop of Daisy! Here are 10 ways to use sour cream or 10 things that are even better topped with sour cream!

Sour cream adds moisture, richness, and a tangy flavor to both sweet and savory dishes. In baking, it makes goods tender and fluffy by reacting with leavening agents. In cooking, it creates creamy textures and balances bold or spicy flavors. It’s also great as a cool, creamy topping or dip. Here’s how to use sour cream in your recipes:

waffles and sour cream

1. Waffles With Sour Cream

Waffles make a great, easy breakfast and now you can squeeze a little Daisy® sour cream on top to make them even more scrumptious. I use sour cream in place of butter and top with fresh fruit and syrup. Delish!

2. Breakfast Tacos

Well, sour cream is excellent on any tacos, really, but I brought up breakfast tacos in case you haven’t tried that option yet. I love being able to quickly and easily squeeze the sour cream across the length of the tacos and get a nice even spread.

berries and sour cream

3. Fruit Topped With Sour Cream

Fresh fruit goes great with sour cream and bit of sprinkled brown sugar. It makes a great snack any time of the day.

nachos

4. Nachos

Nachos are another snack food that is even better with some sour cream. I used to enjoy a dollop for dipping but I really dig being able to squeeze it across the top. I think it makes for even better presentation.

5. Chili Cheese Fries

This snack is so hearty, I usually just use it as a meal and top it with a bunch of parsley so that I feel like I am getting a few greens! The sour cream goes so good with the chili. Yum!

soup

6. Soup

Sour cream is excellent for topping soups. In the photo, I used it to top a lentil soup and it gives a nice light element, and fresh flavor contrast. I also love it on top of tomato soup, butternut squash soup, and borscht.

7. Baked Potatoes

You know a potato isn’t really loaded until it is topped with sour cream. It is mouth watering just thinking about all the elements of potato, cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, and chives, coming together.

beef stroganoff

8. Beef Stroganoff

Sour cream is an essential element in beef stroganoff and bit squeezed on top is just so good. This dish is not too hard and it is great for variety. Whip some up to enjoy with your family on top of egg noodles and with a dollop of Daisy to make good food and good times simply better.

quesadillas

9. Quesadillas

A simple but delicious meal- quesadillas topped with sour cream and salsa on the side. So quick and easy and so satisfying.

key lime pie

10. Pie Topped With Sour Cream

Use sour cream instead of heavy cream! Sour cream is a great alternative to whipped cream on pies and cheesecake. I like how the flavor contrast a bit with the sweetness of dessert. I think is is particularly good on key lime pie and strawberry cheesecake among others.

The truth is these ten things that are better with sour cream are only the tip of the iceberg. Sour cream can be used to dress salads in baking. It can be added to pastry, roasts, stews, sauces, and dips. What are your favorite sour cream uses?

Conclusion

Here’s how to use sour cream in different types of recipes:

In Baking:

  • Cakes & Muffins: Replace part of the liquid (like milk or yogurt) with sour cream for a moist, tender crumb.
  • Quick Breads & Pancakes: Stir into the batter for added richness and a slight tang.
  • Frostings: Mix into cream cheese or buttercream frosting for a smooth, tangy twist.

In Cooking:

  • Sauces & Casseroles: Stir in at the end for creaminess—don’t boil it, or it may curdle.
  • Mashed Potatoes or Pasta: Mix in for a creamy, flavorful upgrade.
  • Marinades: Use as a base with herbs and spices to tenderize meats.

As a Topping or Dip:

  • Spoon over baked potatoes, tacos, nachos, or chili.
  • Blend with herbs and spices for a quick, flavorful dip or dressing.
  • Sour cream can easily replace heavy cream in dips, dressings, or cold dishes.

Incorporating sour cream into your recipes is a simple way to elevate both flavor and texture. Whether you’re baking a moist cake, whipping up a creamy sauce, or topping off your favorite dish, sour cream brings a tangy richness that enhances every bite. It’s a versatile staple that can make everyday meals feel a little more special. What is your favorite way to use sour cream?

I love the Daisy squeeze bottles – it is my favorite way to buy sour cream these days. It really makes it so much easier to add sour cream on top of everything.

I personally prefer plain Greek yogurt over sour cream. And I definitely prefer both over whipped cream!
