I love buying and selling used things. I mean as a consumer, who doesn’t want to get a good deal on gently used things? Especially if you have kids and they outgrow the things in 3 months any way! And as a seller, I love to get rid of clutter and earn a few extra bucks. This post is brought to you by VarageSale- a platform to buy used items and sell used items locally.
What is VarageSale?
It is sort of like a virtual garage sale. You know, a yard sale type site. VarageSale is a unique way to buy and sell used items locally because the communities are built around trust and real identities. They have over 300 communities across the U.S., Canada and around the world. VarageSale is free to use, and available on iOS, Android and online at varagesale.com. Put another way, you can use the VarageSale App or access it on desktop.
Is Varage Sale Safe?
The sales experience was a lot like another online site I had previously used to buy and sell items before (craigslist) but I liked VarageSale even better because it seems safer to me. VarageSale has user admin (who live in the area) that moderate the community to help build a safe environment. Community admins review the user requests to join and ensure they are actually local before approving them. The coummunity moderators are a great feature. I also felt like it was a lot easier to use and took me less time to post my items. Visually, I found the site very appealing and easy to find and see all your options.
How does VarageSale App work?
- Post your gently used items to the VarageSale feed. It’s quick and easy from the website, but even easier on our mobile app. Post anything from clothing, accessories, to home decor and more.
- Browse the feed to see what people are selling nearby. Comment on an item to ask questions or express your interest to buy.
- Private message a user to confirm transaction details, such as final price, pick up time and location. Users typically meet at someone’s house or in a public parking lot to complete the transaction.
- Had a good transaction? Leave a praise for the members so others know they are a pleasure to deal.
My VarageSale Review: Sell Locally And Buy Used Items
I got to learn how VarageSale works firsthand because VarageSale provided me with a bit of spending money to use on VarageSale. I just went to the VarageSale website and signed up. You select a community that is near you to join and then an admin will notify you once they have approved you. Once I was approved, I listed a large used baby gear we had as a way to clean out my home and get organized. I also did a little shopping and scored a great deal on a ping pong table for my kids.
I love buying and selling second-hand because it is a great way to go green. Buying used saves you money, while selling used declutters your home and makes you cash. Why not sell an old phone or buy a gently used outfit for your child?
Shop the use local items and then just click on the name of the VarageSale user with the item you want (check member ratings) and click “Message Seller.” This lets you communicate with the seller via private message to agree on all the details of the sale. No phone numbers needed. It is sort of like going to a thrift store in your local community but without having to leave the house.
My shopping experience was great. I left a comment to ask about the item that was offered and get measurements. They provided measurements and we discussed a meeting place. Then I sent a private message to arrange a time and we exchanged phone numbers. We met and I got a super cool new ping pong table and she got cash. We were both completely satisfied with our VarageSale experience.
