Easter is behind us and April is flying by.  I am already thinking about May and Mother’s Day.  I’d could buy beautiful jewelry or clothes for my mom for Mother’s Day, that is just not her style.  She’d rather have something handmade that is unique and special and I love to create something new for her each year.  This year I’m making a DIY Magnet Set for Mother’s Day! I just know she will enjoy using her Mother’s Day magnets year round and thinking of me making them for her.  These DIY glass magnets are perfect for the refrigerator and you can personalize them with small photos or create a matching magnet set with patterned paper.

Supplies:

  • 1 package of decorative glass gems
  • 1 package of magnet buttons or magnet sheet
  • 1 sheet of scrapbook paper, magazine cutouts or photos
  • Clear glue for glass

DIY Glass Magnets

DIY Glass Magnets Tutorial:

Place the glass gems on your scrapbook paper or photos and trace around each one.  My gems were not perfect circles so each one was slightly different.  If your glass gems are this way you’ll want to keep track of which piece of paper goes with each gem.

Apply a small amount of glue to the back of each glass gem.  You’ll want to make sure that the type of glue you are using is made for glass and will dry clear.  I suggest Mod Podge or Quick Grip.  You can get both at your local craft store or here is my affiliate link for Amazon. Press the paper or photo onto the back of the gem with the right side against the glass.  Carefully smooth all the bubbles out and set the gem aside to dry.

When all the gems are dry apply a small amount of glue to the backs and attach a magnet button to finish off your DIY glass magnets.  You could use a magnet sheet instead and cut pieces to fit over the entire back of the glass gem.  The magnet buttons are quicker and easier to use though.

Let the glue dry completely before using or placing the Mother’s Day magnets in a box or gift bag.

Mother's Day Magnets To Make

These DIY glass magnets can be made with photos of the family, scrapbook paper, magazine clippings, or any other decorative paper.  Make a set of these Mother’s Day Magnets with your mom’s favorite things! Do you think you will make a DIY glass gem magnet set? What will you use for your background image? What are some of your favorite ideas for Mother’s Day presents?

These DIY Mother’s Day Magnets are a great adult craft or child craft.  Here are some more ideas for Mother’s Day gifts from kids.

This is such a cute idea. I’m thinking magnetic paint on one kitchen cabinet door, couple of these adorable magnets with grandbabies pix, and voila–recipe holder while I’m cooking!!
