Here is a unique Valentine’s Day recipe you and your loved one can enjoy when you add it to just about any dessert (or even breakfast). This is a tasty strawberry topping made with macadamia nuts, sweet spices and a touch of holiday favorite liqueurs. You can make a non-alcoholic version for the kiddies then add in the liqueurs for the adults to share.
Strawberry Topping Recipe:
4 cups of fresh sliced strawberries
3 ounces of butter
1 cup of light brown sugar
1 cup of chopped macadamia nuts
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
½ cup strawberry liqueur
2 tbs. 151 proof rum
Strawberry Topping Directions-
Once you have all of our ingredients, melt the butter in a large skillet and slowly stir in the light brown sugar and mix until smooth. Then you are ready to cook the nuts, nutmeg, and cinnamon into the butter mix until it is bubbly. Once the sauce is smooth, turn down the heat and add the sliced strawberries. Stir continuously until fruit is tender. Remove from heat and it is ready to serve to the little ones. But if you are making this topping for a romantic evening, it is now time to add the liqueur and rum. While sauce is still hot you can ignite the topping to burn off some of the alcohol and be sure to stir carefully until the flame burns out. That’s it- ready to serve!
This strawberry topping is perfect on ice cream, brownies, cheesecake, or even pancakes if you are more of the breakfast-in-bed romantic. Make anyone of these desserts into a heart-shape and you have the ideal treat to top off a wonderfully romantic evening.
