Saint Patrick’s Day is almost here (March 17th) and it’s time to go green! Green isn’t usually the color you’re hoping your food takes on but don’t fret. I’m going to show you 17 different ways to eat green without icky food coloring stains. Don’t be scared of the green. Embrace the green. Bring on the green recipes for St. Patrick’s Day! It’s what St. Patrick would have wanted, right?

Green Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day:

green-recipes

In honor of the “Apostle of Ireland” and in celebration of his homeland’s beautiful green scenery, I bring to you a Great Green Feast, consisting of 5 delicious shamrock colored breakfast treats (Dr. Suess has nothing on this!), 5 green-a-licious dinner dishes, 5 more perfectly pistachio’d desserts (besides green jello), and 2 very sassy lime looking drink concoctions. Get ready to go to Emerald City, baby.

Green Breakfast Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day

Green Smoothie Recipe

Everyone here loves smoothies for breakfast, right? Or is it just me? What a great way to kickstart the day with something totally refreshing. If you’re not drinking green smoothies then now is the time to start. Blast off this March with a super simple and healthy smoothie recipe from 100 Days of Real Food that you’ll love. Sometimes the weird looking stuff is good.

Green Pancakes with Lime Butter

Go green with pancakes this St. Paddy’s day. These pancakes from Bon Appetit include a lime butter recipe, which is what makes them so unique and delicious. They border on art piece rather than food stuff and look magnificent when photographed (as seen below). Green onions, chiles, and spinach. Here’s another recipe to add to your catalog:

Green Eggs and Ham Burrito

I was more than excited when I came across this recipe at Greatist. It’s an interesting spin on the classic “green eggs and ham” you’ve definitely heard of. In addition to being a fantastically green breakfast wrap, this dish includes some of my favorite healthy choices like whole wheat tortilla and pesto.

Spinach Leek Breakfast Casserole

Stay healthy and fit by adding more GREEN to your diet! This winning dish from Kalyn’s Kitchen combines spinach, leeks, cottage cheese, and goat cheese for a savory breakfast that you won’t feel guilty about. This breakfast casserole will satisfy your morning hunger, feed your children, and make you feel good about yourself.

Kale Apple Muffins

These festive colored muffins from Levana Cooks: The Whole Food Kosher Kitchen will be a hit at breakfast or throughout your St. Patrick’s day. Take granny smith apples, kale, and some vegan cream cheese and whip up a batch of these to get everyone talking. Sure it’s unusual to see kale make an appearance in your sweet treats, but step outside the box for green’s sake!

Green Dinner Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day

Vegan Pesto-fredo

Pesto is the ultimate pasta sauce! That’s why I had to include this delightfully green dish created by Regina Rae. In addition to it’s brilliant color, this recipe is super simple and easy to follow. Just combine avocado, garlic cloves, basil and lemon juice for the desired effect.

Green Pea Pasta

Yes, more pasta! Why? Because pasta is tasty, fast, and easy. Also, the result of this recipe from In Fine Balance is just too beautiful to pass up. Spinach, peas, and pesto give this pasta its color and those white chunks are yummy feta cheese. It’s almost too pretty to eat!

Italian Spinach Pie

Take a page from Popeye’s cookbook with this recipe from San Pellegrino. It includes 10 ounces of spinach! Combine that with leeks, white rice, and even Olive Oil makes an appearance. Tell the kids we’re having pie for dinner tonight!

Green Rice with Pistachios

Rice is as simple as it gets for a dinner dish. Serious Eats brings us this recipe from the cookbook Lucid Food, which specializes in eco-friendly cooking. The rice is specially made with copious amounts of cilantro, parsley, and dill. This vegetarian dish can easily be spruced up for meat eaters with your choice of grilled chicken, beef, or lamb.

Spinach & Goat Cheese Bisque

Use dark green spinach to create this shockingly green dinner. Perfect for the holiday, but tasty enough for any day! Anna Thomas from Eating Well writes, “A little fresh goat cheese and a touch of butter are just enough to make this spinach soup silky, creamy and a little nutty—but not enough to overdo it.”

Green Dessert Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day

Green Tea Ice Cream

When I thought of green desserts, green tea ice cream the first thing that popped into my mind! There are a couple of ways to make it, but Los Angeles Times provided this very simple recipe. Break out the ice cream maker and get started on dessert. All you need is cream, milk, eggs, and this cool stuff called green tea powder!

Creamy Lime Squares

I’m willing to accept a little green food coloring with a recipe this gorgeous.  It just reminds me of how festive one can really get for St. Paddy’s day. As long as you’re not sick of green thus far, I would definitely recommend trying out this fun dessert recipe from Eat, Live, Run for your last course.

Dark Chocolate & Mint Cheesecake Brownies

Who doesn’t love a good brownie? Brownie + cheesecake = the best idea ever. Miss In The Kitchen has a great recipe for some delicious MINT Chocolate Cheesecake Brownies that will blow your socks off and keep the green theme going.

Chocolate Kiwi Popsicles

What will they think up next? These popsicles are chocolatey on the outside and deliciously kiwi green on the inside. The easy instructions at ShowFood Chef will leave you with another small way to impress the best on St. Patrick’s day.

St.-Patricks-Day-Dipped-Oreos

Chocolate Oreo Cookies

Yes, more chocolate! There is a tad bit of artificial coloring for the sprinkles but not much. This recipe for chocolate dipped Oreos is easy and you can use mint Oreos if you like! Perfect for the Oreo lover in you.

Green Drink Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day

Lime Sherbet Punch

This punch recipe from Paula Deen’s website is a great punch for your St. Patrick’s day party. Guests will be left in awe of its limey taste and lovely presentation!  It’s also very simple to make and won’t break the bank.

 Pineapple Lime Punch

Who does green punch better – Betty Crocker or Paula Deen? The choice is yours! Paula’s looks elegant while Betty’s takes on a more vibrant green color. Not to mention that both have unique ingredients. Maybe you should just make both?

Well, that’s it! Your 17 Gourmet Green Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day. There are many more green recipes out there but these are just some of my favorite and decidedly gorgeous green recipes of hundreds. I hope you found at least one suitable for your green extravaganza this March 17th.  Which is your favorite green recipe for St. Patrick’s Day?
