What drove you most to write this book, and what resonates with you most as this book continues to grow?
This is actually the 5th edition of Diabetes Meal Planning Made Easy, published by the American Diabetes Association. The first edition of this book was published about 20 years ago. I’ve been updating it every few years since. The 2016 update was needed because the field of nutrition and diabetes care is changing rapidly. This edition includes updated research and recommendations from the American Diabetes Association as well as the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Actionable Diabetes Diet Information
I originally wrote this book because I felt people with diabetes needed a no-nonsense, easy-to-read book that helps them know exactly what to do. Increasingly people want cut to the chase, actionable information they can easily fit into their daily life. Diabetes Meal Planning Made Easy is just that. The key aim of the book is to help people, as easily as possible, make small incremental changes in their eating habits and lifestyle to live healthier.
Helps Manage Diabetes
Today there’s a staggering 29 million people in the US estimated to have diabetes. The majority of those people have type 2 diabetes. In addition, there’s an even more staggering 86 million Americans with prediabetes. This is a condition when blood glucose is higher than normal, but not high enough to diagnosis diabetes. This book is focused squarely on helping people newly diagnosed with (or ready to deal with) prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It helps them take steps to manage and hopefully prevent or slow the progression of their diabetes.
